After six years in marketing and communications at a logistics provider, Julia joined ivoflow in January 2024 eager for a new challenge. With a background in supply chain-related industries and a passion for B2B marketing, she is responsible for external communications, marketing activities, and brand management. In this blog post, Julia shares insights into building a marketing strategy from scratch, upcoming events, and what makes working at a start-up so exciting.
What does your professional career look like?
After completing my Bachelor's degree in Media Studies and English Literature, I gained my first professional experience in B2B and product marketing at a pharmacy supplies company. In my second role, I built and expanded the marketing and PR department at an internationally active logistics service provider. To deepen my expertise—especially on the management side—I pursued a degree in Media and Communications Management with a focus on corporate communications. During this time, I had the opportunity to gain valuable experience through practical projects with exciting partners such as RTL, Bertelsmann, and the German Economic Institute. As Head of Marketing at the logistics company, I was responsible for a wide range of areas and projects, including internal communication, PR work, employer branding and online marketing.
Why did you become part of the ivoflow team?
I strongly believe that stepping out of your comfort zone on a regular basis is essential for personal growth. After six years with my previous employer, I was ready for exactly that. ivoflow offers some familiar aspects—it's still connected to the world of supply chain management—but also opens up exciting new dimensions that I was eager to explore. What particularly attracted me was the company’s start-up character, which offers plenty of room for creativity and the opportunity to help shape things. I enjoy being creative when it comes to processes and structures and appreciate work environments without rigid hierarchies that could slow down progress and innovation.
What are your tasks at ivoflow?
At ivoflow, I am responsible for all aspects of external communication, our marketing activities, the overall brand presence and, of course, lead generation. This includes tasks such as press relations, online marketing, and the planning and preparation of trade fairs and events—both online and offline.
What has been your professional highlight during your time at ivoflow? Which project have you enjoyed the most?
Some of my highlights at ivoflow so far have been the positive response to our initial press activities, successful trade show appearances, and the moments when my concepts and ideas receive positive feedback. Maybe not strictly a professional highlight, but still very much job-related, are our team events. I really enjoy spending time together outside the office and strengthening the team spirit.
Which project was challenging and why?
One of the challenges was to develop a solid marketing strategy without any historical data. It was important to find a healthy balance between trial-and-error and relying on proven channels. By now, we’ve tested a lot, gained valuable experience, and continuously refined our approach.
Is there an exciting project you are currently working on?
I’m currently working on various online marketing activities where testing and experimenting play a major role. I’m also looking forward to planning more events and trade shows that we’ll be attending for the first time this year. Trade shows are always a welcome change from office life and give me, as someone not coming from a procurement background, a great opportunity to connect with the industry and gain new insights.
What do you like best about your work at ivoflow?
Above all, what I value most about my work is the team—after all, you spend a significant part of your time with your colleagues. A harmonious work environment is extremely important to me. Of course, I’m also fascinated by our product. What I find especially exciting is the high level of complexity that often comes with B2B products and services. It challenges me every single day and keeps the work interesting and diverse. What I also value are the companies we collaborate with. In the ProcureTech space, there are naturally many businesses whose products compete with ours, but there are also plenty of platforms that complement our solution perfectly. That’s why building a strong partner network is something we’re eager to pursue—and something I’m personally excited about.
What music secretly plays in your headphones while working?
If it’s not a Spotify “Deep house concentration” playlist or simply radio music, I might be listening to German Schlager or party songs. I listen and I don't judge 😎
If your life were a movie, who would play you?
Probably Leighton Meester or Anne Hathaway—I've been told a few times that I resemble them.
What’s a hidden talent of mine that only a few people know about?
I can write a poem about a random topic within five minutes—without using ChatGPT. ☺️
